How to Make the Solution:
Using a large plastic pail. Dissolve 1 lb in 5 gallons of lukewarm water, stirring with a wooden stick until the solution turns dark red and the Filtertrine is totally dissolved. Determine the capacity of the filter tank by the manufacturer's label and make enough solution to cover the elements or sand.
How to Use on Cartridge Filters and Removable D.E. Elements:
Stop filtration and drain all water from filter. Remove elements and soak overnight in sufficient Filtertrine solution to cover. DO NOT USE GALVANIZED ALUMINUM OR PORCELAIN CONTAINER FOR SOAKING. Remove filter elements from solution, drain, rinse thoroughly with warm water until clean and replace filter. Start pump and fill filter with clean water.
How to Use on Sand Filters and Filters Without Removable Elements:
Backwash filter. Drain water from filter and close drain valve. Open filter top and pour pre-mixed Filtertrine solution until the top of the sand is covered. (If top of filter is not removable, follow directions below.) Let stand overnight (12 hours). Backwash until water is coming from backwash line is clear. Do not allow solution to get into the pool.
If top of filter cannot be removed, backwash filter, then shut off pump and remove hair and lint pot cover. Drain filter. Turn on pump, making certain that handle is in backwash position, and slowly pour Filtertrine solution into hair and lint pot with pump running. Do not allow pump to run dry. Continue adding Filtertrine until sand or elements are covered. Shut off pump at once, leave in backwash position and allow to stand overnight (12 hours). Backwash water until water coming from backwash line is clear. Do not allow solution to get into pool. Start pump and fill filter with clean water.
